Is Your Sub Document – Merge Icon Greyed Out In Microsoft Word?

Laying Out a Word Document

Formatting your Word document is critical when working with large documents 20 pages or more. Splitting a Word document into workable sections is great but you want to ensure that consistent Styles have been used. Take a look at this article on Styles. Now when you create styles you can collapse and expand by simply clicking on the triangle that appear when you hover over it. When inserting graphic and you are using the latest version you see green guide lines that appear as you move the object in place.

Pictures

If you are going to insert pictures into your Word document remember to change the Wrap Text option as soon as you insert the picture otherwise you will be frustrated because you can’t position the picture exactly where you want to. I have written an article on wrap text.

Solution

If you find the Sub Documents button is greyed out when in outline view and working on Master Documents in Microsoft Word. Ensure that you have selected the Sub Document icon and not just selected the text of all the Sub Documents you wish to merge.
